Cruzar o atlântico numa prancha à vela

Se llama Sarah Hébert, tiene 27 años es francesa, y se ha propuesto cruzar el Océano Atlántico montada en una tabla de windsurf. Se trata de un reto realmente apasionante, siempre peligroso, y que tiene un componente de competición y aventura por igual. Descubrí esta historia a través de un enlace que puso en twitterÁlvaro del Arco (@crewner), y me pareció curiosa e interesante de compartir.

Hébert ha entrado en el décimo segundo día de travesía. Salió de Dakar (Senegal) y se encuentra casi a mitad de camino del punto de llegada, situado en Point-à-Pitre (Guadalupe). El objetivo está claro y por ahora se están cumpliendo las expectativas.

Pero la windsurfista francesa no va sola, llega un barco de apoyo que es donde pasa las noches y desde el que después de estar navegando entre 6 y 8 horas prácticamente ininterrumpidamente, se marca la posición exacta en un GPS en el lugar en que dejó en cada momento la competición, para de esta forma volver a reanudar la marcha cada mañana.

Se está enfrentando a las inclemencias del tiempo, desde el fuerte viento a las calmas, a las grandes olas y tempestades que ha sufrido en estos días. Pero el objetivo está ahí y quiere emular a otros que ya han cruzado el ‘charco’ en una tabla a vela, como en su día lo hicieron en 1984 Christian Marty que en 37 días hizo Dakar-Guayana; en 1986 Stephane Peyron y Alain Pichavant Dakar-Guadalupe; en 1987 Peyron repitió pero en esta ocasión haciendo la travesía del Atlántico Norte y en el 2000 Raphaela Le Gouvello la travesía Senegal-Martinica.

Pero no acaba aquí la historia de Sarah Hébert. A los 22 le diagnosticaron un problema cardíaco y le fue colocado en el corazón un DAI (desfibrilador automático implantable) con el que convive desde entonces. Esto demuestra además la gran fuerza física y mental de esta regatista que busca cruzar el Atlántico en 25 días.

Todo un ejemplo de superación.

Rio 2016 equipment selection to take place in Santander in March

ISAF has announced that there will be a series of Kiteboarding format trials to be held in Santander, Spain over 21-25 March. The Prince Felipe High Performance Centre that is hosting the evaluation event will also host the 2014 ISAF Sailing World Championships.


In May 2011 ISAF Council selected Windsurfing and/or Kiteboarding as a possible event for the 2016 Olympic Sailing Competition.

In November 2011 ISAF Council agreed that a specialist evaluation team be appointed to look at the format and event management implications for Kiteboarding.

The evaluation team has been selected for their in depth Kiteboarding knowledge and is made up of representatives from both ISAF and the IKA:

- Kamen Fillyov - Chairman of the ISAF Windsurfing & Kiteboarding Committee
- Bruno de Wannemaeker - ISAF Equipment Committee
- Michael Gebhardt - Olympic Windsurfer and professional Kiteboarder
- Markus Schwendtner - Executive Secretary, International Kiteboarding Association

ISAF has also appointed a panel of windsurfing, Kiteboarding and race management experts to prepare a final report for the ISAF Mid-Year meeting:

- Tomasz Chamera - ISAF Events Committee
- Ilker Bayindir - ISAF Windsurfing & Kiteboarding Committee
- Bruno de Wannemaeker - ISAF Equipment Committee

ISAF and the IKA have proposed the following format options for Kiteboarding to be trialled in Santander:


Short tack



Slalom



Course racing



Enduro



Throughout the five day trials, the sailors will sail the different formats and provide feedback.

ISAF is inviting Member National Authorities, National Kiteboard Associations and Kiteboarding manufacturers to nominate a maximum of one man and one woman to attend the format trails. Please complete and return the application for before 24 February. ISAF and the IKA will then select a maximum of 12 sailors to attend the trails in Santander.

Please note that travel arrangements, flight and accommodation costs are to be covered by the MNA, the national class, the manufacturer or the sailor himself.
