Dia calmo em Cascais

Fonte: RC44

In contrast to yesterday’s foam up, the penultimate day of racing at the Cascais RC44 Cup was spent wishing for wind.

The fleet were held ashore until 13:00 BST in the hope the sea breeze would kick before motoring three miles west of Cascais, where the sea-breeze is more prevalent, racing eventually got underway at 15:30 in a light 7 knots breeze.

Event leader Katusha (RUS) showed the fleet the way in the first race, starting at the committee boat tacking immediately towards the shoreline, obviously wanting the right hand side of the track. Peninsula Petroleum (GBR) and Team Aqua (GBR) had the same plan and the trio rounded the windward mark ahead of the fleet. The top three places didn’t change, Katusha taking the win, Peninsula Petroleum second and then Team Aqua. The Russian flagged team was extending their overall lead on the fleet.

Race two started with a general recall, Race Officer Peter Reggio was quick to hoist the black flag with new boys Aegir (GBR) and RUS 7 being called over and disqualified from the race. Katusha and Peninsula Petroleum headed right off the start line again, but this time it was Team Aqua that popped out of the middle of the pack to lead at the windward mark. Peninsula Petroleum was next to round. As much as the team from Gibraltar pushed, but they couldn’t catch Team Aqua who sailed the perfect race, their second race-win of the event.

Steve Howe and Russell Coutts on Katusha followed their race win with a fourth place giving them a 13 point cushion going into the final day of racing. Team Aqua stays in second overall, reducing the margin by one-point and are clearly not giving up on the event win just yet. “Katusha have got a pretty healthy lead over us at the moment but everything is possible and we will defiantly try to catch them tomorrow.” Chris Bake, owner/driver, Team Aqua.

Peninsula Petroleum put in another incredibly consistent set of results after their two wins yesterday this time in very different conditions, they move-up into third overall on equal points with Igor Lah/Michele Ivaldi and the Slovenian CEEREF team. “I’m very proud of the guys, we’ve sailed unbelievably again today. To come out today and back up yesterday’s good day was important. I’m very happy with boat speed and tactics so hopefully we can keep it going for one more day,” Peninsula Petroleum owner John Bassadone (GBR).

The class have the great honour tonight to have their gala dinner at the Presidential Palace in Cascais, the first time a private event has been given permission to use the Palace.

Racing at the Cascais RC44 Cup 2012 concludes on 1st April. The action kicks off at 12.00 (BST) with no warning signal allowed after 1500 on the final day. Follow the racing and see who will win the second event of the RC44 Championship Tour on the live blog at www.rc44.com.

Ultimo feedback by ISAF à cerca deste evento em Santander:

"Light winds meant that the final day at the 2016 Equipment Evaluations in Santander, Spain wrapped up earlier than expected.

The decision to cancel the day was made at the 09:30 sailor briefing, but after eight days of evaluating the seven multihull and six skiff boats the panel have enough information, sailor feedback and data to discuss what boats are appropriate for the 2016 Rio Olympic Sailing Competition.

The manufacturers now have the task of dismantling all of their equipment to take back home where they will assess and review how their week went.

Moving forward, the Evaluation Panel will finalise their reports and decisions will be made in the not so distant future.

Thanks for following the blog throughout the trials and we will keep you further updated with ISAF news items in the build up to the ISAF Mid-Year Meeting in Stresa, Italy from 3-6 May."

Brian Benjamin and Team Aegir to join the fleet in Cascais
Tuesday March 20th 2012, Author: James Boyd, Location: Portugal

Patrick de Barros, one of Portugal’s most celebrated entrepreneurs and sportsmen, is hoping for a jubilant return to the RC44 class on his home waters of Cascais for round two of the 2012 RC44 Championship Tour. A new team will be testing the waters in Portugal, Brian Benjamin better known in the world of maxi racing will be racing in Portugal with his Team Aegir at the Cascais RC44 Cup 2012 to be held over 28 March–1 April.

In what is the Tour’s first ever visit to the famous Portuguese sailing city; de Barros will be helming Aleph Sailing Team. He is taking over from Hugues Lepic for the event and renaming the boat Team Cascais for this one-off occasion. Aleph’s regular young French crew, with Mathieu Richard as tactician, will race with de Barros.

De Barros last competed in the RC44 Championship in the 2008 season when his Team Banco Espirito Santo crew clinched the Tour title. An accomplished sailor he was twice chosen as Portugal’s Olympic flag bearer for both the 1984 and 1988 Games and is looking forward to his return to the class in the Bay of Cascais, de Barros said: “I’m lucky to substitute on an excellent boat, with a great crew, which finished second in the first event of the 2012 Tour in Lanzarote this February. I am looking to have a good race.

“Cascais is recognised as one of the best places in the world for yachting and I am delighted to be sponsored by the Cascais City Council for the event. Cascais has a tradition in holding major events, which are very important for the promotion of tourism and international exposure for Portugal.”

Also joining the fleet for the first time in Cascais is the Brian Benjamin-owned Team Aegir (GBR), better known in the world of maxi racing. With Benjamin at the helm, Aegir first came to prominence in 2010, winning the Mini Maxi Cruiser Yacht World Championship. His latest yacht, the head-turning 82ft Maxi built by Carbon Ocean Yachts took line honours in every race at the 2011 Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup.

Benjamin is recognised as a successful, self-made entrepreneur. After leaving school he became a Private in the British Army and through this association Team Aegir proudly supports Toe in the Water, the tri-service initiative inspiring men and women who have sustained injuries serving their country.

Guy Barron is the team manager for Team Aegir and former Platú 25 World Champion and multiple Spanish match racing champion, Manu Weiller will be on tactics. Benjamin said: “Taking on world class teams and sailors in the RC44 circuit is an ideal way to improve performance for Aegir’s 2012 Maxi season. Racing identical yachts, on tight courses is a perfect platform to hone starting procedures and boat-on-boat strategy.”

REGATA KOMATSU

Fonte: CVA

18ft skiffs in 25 knots

More airborne yachting as Yandoo clinches the Alice Burton Memorial Trophy

The skill of three of the most experienced 18ft Skiff sailors was on show today as John 'Woody' Winning, Andrew Hay and Dave Gibson tamed the 25-knot southerly wind to bring Yandoo home as winner of the Alice Burton Memorial Trophy race on Sydney Harbour.

As the wind battered the fleet, Yandoo was one of the few teams to negotiate the course without capsizing at least once. Their official winning margin was 4m30s from another highly skilled team of Brett Van Munster, Paul Williams and Shaun Moran on Kenwood-Rabbitohs.

Third place went to Lumix, with Trevor Barnabas, Tim Webster and Greg Dixon on board, a further 40s away.

The wind was close to the maximum strength the skiffs could habndle and it wasn’t surprising that there were some capsizes before the start.

Once away, the race to the windward mark (first set of three-buoys) at Clarke Island was extremely close.

Taking advantage of the ‘handicapping’ of the marks, De’longhi-Rabbitohs (Matt Searle) grabbed a narrow lead from Pure Blonde (Tom Clout) while Yandoo was first to the blue buoy.

Spectators were treated to an awesome display by the flying 18s as they powered down the spinnaker run from Clarke Island to Obelisk Bay.

De’longhi-Rabbitohs and Pure Blonde exchanged the lead in a thrilling exhibition before Pure Blonde capsized. Matt Wark, Pure Blonde’s forward hand, broke his finger in the capsize forcing the skiff to retire.

Yandoo grabbed the lead on the beat back from Obelisk into Rose Bay and continued to head the pack until Lumix took over after rounding the Clarke Island (3-buoys) mark.

Lumix capsized near Obelisk Bay and this time Yandoo opened up a big break and was set for victory. Kenwood-Rabbitohs took advantage of this to go into second place and for the final three legs of the course these positions remained unchanged.

Backmarker, Thurlow Fisher Lawyers (Michael Coxon) came back strongly after an early swim to finish fourth ahead of The Kitchen Maker, skippered by James Francis.

Andrew Chapman’s Fisher & Paykel went out with a 4-person crew, which included 29er sailor Jessica Hansen, and managed to get around the course in sixth place, ahead of De’longhi-Rabbitohs.

Ainslie absolvido pela ISAF

The ISAF Executive Committee has met to consider the reports from the International Jury of the Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships and the RYA Tribunal. The role of ISAF under Racing Rule of Sailing 69.2(a) is to first determine whether or not it is appropriate to conduct a further hearing into the reports received.
The Executive Committee has reviewed the decisions of the International Jury and the RYA Tribunal, the video evidence of the incident, other relevant documentation from Perth and has taken legal advice. Mr Ainslie was asked to comment and did so.
The Executive Committee supports the decision and the report of the International Jury and the report of the RYA Tribunal that found that Mr Ainslie committed Gross Misconduct and believes that the penalties imposed to date are appropriate. Accordingly, ISAF does not regard it as appropriate to conduct a further hearing into the incident and no further action will therefore be taken.
The issue of Media Boats is a separate matter from the decision issued today. The ISAF Media policies were clear and the issue of adherence will be considered separately.

4º Dia em Santander

Fonte: ISAF

Light winds welcomed the sailors on the fourth day of the 2016 Equipment Evaluations meaning that sailing was postponed early on.

Despite waiting for breeze, it was a productive morning for the female skiff sailors as they joined Evaluation Panel members Adrienne Cahalan (AUS) and Sylvia Vogl (AUT) in an informal session where they all gave feedback on the skiffs they’d sailed so far.

The wind started to fill in early in the afternoon and the sailors hit the water at 14:00 local time. Today saw the sailors finish sailing all of the seven multihull and six skiff boats. Sailor feedback forms have been completed and returned to the panel for evaluation and consideration.

As we move into the second half of the trials sailors will move out of the bay to further test the boats, and themselves, in various conditions whilst continuing filling out feedback forms.

Towards the end of the session a series of informal races were conducted between the mixed multihull crews who got the chance to face off against each other. Whilst the boats are not evaluated against each other in race conditions it was nice to see the competitive edge come out in many of the sailors.

The AURA team face the panel this evening in the usual presentation and Q&A session whilst the sailors will take in the sights of the Santander as the sun we’ve had today begins to set.

Evaluation @ Santander

Hoje foi o terceiro dia de testes, as tripulações ainda não rodaram todos os barcos mas já têm algo a dizer.
Fiquemos com a reportagem da ISAF hoje em Santander.

Fonte: ISAF

It was a good day of sailing on the third day of the 2016 Equipment Evaluations as the sailors had their first full day of sailing, allowing the panel to check out the equipment in various conditions.

Rainfall greeted the sailors during the morning session but with the wind blowing steady between 10-15 knots sailors got out onto the water to test the equipment.

The afternoon session saw a variable breeze from 5 up to 12 knots with some of the sailors racing each other.

And at the end of the day there were a lot of happy faces.

By the close of play tomorrow many of the sailors would have sailed every boat and have an understanding of how each boat works. As the week goes on there may be an opportunity to sail outside of the bay.

The Hobie team are currently facing the panel so we spoke to some of the sailors after sailing. Here’s what they had to say:

Evaluation sailor, Marcin Badzio said, “I think it [Santander] is a great spot for sailing, the bay is fantastic and the city is interesting and you can see some nice places. I’ve tested five boats so far and they are all very nice and interesting but we have to choose the best for mixed sailing so that’s the most important criteria.”

New Zealand crew Alexandra Maloney and Molly Meech have travelled a long way to get to the evaluations but have looked comfortable on the skiffs sailed so far. Meech said, “So far it’s been good here but it’s been quite cold. It was good sailing today and great to get out on the water. Rio 2016 is a goal of ours and that is our aim. We definitely want to sail in the skiff.”

There will be a sailor briefing tomorrow at 09:30 with the panel still to decide what time sailing will commence.
