Campeonato da Europa de 420 de 2013 em Valência
Na Assembleia geral da classe 420 celebrada em Tavira(Portugal) elegeu por unanimidade o clube valenciano como organizador do campeonato do mundo.
O RCN Valencia será o clube organizador do Campeonato do Mundo de 420 que se celebrará em 2013. Assim foi decidido na Assembleia Geral Extraordinária da classe na localidade portuguesa, após a apresentação realizada pelos representantes do clube Rafel Chirivella, coordenado da área desportiva e Pedro Quiroga, director desportivo. O Náutico valenciano, que apresentou a sua candidatura contra à de Tasmania(Australia), saiu eleito por unanimidade na votação realizada entre os secretários gerais da classe 420 de 24 nações. O Mundial tem data de Julho de 2013, mas os dias concretos estão por acertar.

O prólogo desta edição d’ La Solitaire du Figaro, foi corrido com quase total ausência de vento, obrigando o Júri a reduzir o percurso drasticamente para viabilizar uma chegada. Duas foram as marcas usadas na rondagem. A prova de apresentação aos Sponsors foi ganha pelo estreante Alexis Littoz-Baritel (Savoie Mont-Blanc) que se impôs nos últimos metros.
A largada foi bastante apertada para muitos dos velejadores pois sobre eles já tinha caído uma bandeira negra, ou seja a desclassificação sumária caso voltassem a largar adiantados como acontecera na primeira tentativa à hora marcada.
Uma brisa muito fraca com cerca de 5 nós e muito instável era sentida à hora do tiro de largada e apesar de muitos skippers escolherem o lado do barco do júri, por ser mais vantajoso em teoria, a opção do grosso da frota foi mesmo partir da bóia, amurado a estibordo. A maior pressão gerada pela proximidade de terra foi compreendida por alguns que, apesar de terem largado do lado oposto, prolongaram um pouco o bordo para reduzirem o “estrago” da opção inicial menos certa. Aliás foi a saída por este lado do percurso que se mostrou mais acertada.
A corrente contra da maré enchente, enfiada com o vento e com o percurso, também não facilitou a vida aos solitários. A frota acabou por rondar muito compacta – cerca de cem metros para 47 Figaros – a bóia de barlavento. As dificuldades acrescidas tinham portanto origem nos singelos três nós de vento e corrente atravessada.
Estas mesmas características, arrastaram então a frota para a marca de sotavento dando pouca possibilidade de alteração nas classificações.
O Francisco acabou este ensaio geral em 32º.

A largada foi bastante apertada para muitos dos velejadores pois sobre eles já tinha caído uma bandeira negra, ou seja a desclassificação sumária caso voltassem a largar adiantados como acontecera na primeira tentativa à hora marcada.
Uma brisa muito fraca com cerca de 5 nós e muito instável era sentida à hora do tiro de largada e apesar de muitos skippers escolherem o lado do barco do júri, por ser mais vantajoso em teoria, a opção do grosso da frota foi mesmo partir da bóia, amurado a estibordo. Primeira etapa termina com liderança de Delmar Conde
Delmar Conde lidera a classificação provisória da Regata dos Portos do Centro, na classe ANC1, cumprida que está a primeira etapa da prova. O DC CONST. NAVAIS/PORTO DE AVEIRO cumpriu o cruzeiro Aveiro-Figueira da Foz, realizado ontem, em 5h 9’ 17’’. O segundo posto é ocupado pelo ALCHEMIST, de Carlos Van Zeller, e o terceiro pelo PEGASO, de João Patrão.
Na classe ANC2, a liderança provisória pertence a Sérgio Ferreira, com o FUSIB (6h 49’ 14’’). Nos lugares seguintes encontram-se Filipe Neto (AVEICABO), e Paulo Venceslau (XPTO2).
Por último, na classe CRUZEIRO, reportando-nos também à classificação provisória, temos CHEMY no lugar cimeiro (6h 39’ 44’’), seguido do INDELEVEL, de Jorge Bártolo.
A regata disputou-se entre a barra de Aveiro e Figueira da Foz, com uma largada conjunta para as três classes e dezasseis embarcações pelas 11.00h, e a chegada a verificar-se pelas 16h 15’, para os mais rápidos.
A prova foi disputada com vento do quadrante NW e com 15 nós de intensidade, permitindo, na mareação à popa, trazer toda a frota participante sem problemas até à Figueira da Foz.
A concluir a jornada, os participantes foram recebidos nas instalações da Consulfoz, para um lanche de confraternização que incluiu velejadores, organização e convidados.

Miguel Andrade foi 91º no Mundial de Laser radial que aconteceu em La Rochelle até 23 de Julho, este campeonato teve também uma qualificação como campeonato europeu onde o Miguel foi 2º na frota de bronze.
Neste momento, participa no campeonato mundial de juniores onde é 231º classificado.
Nesta regata participam outros portugueses, entre eles está Eduardo Marques que recentemente participou nos jogos da juventude, encontra-se em 38º, seguido por, Miguel Gomes em 55º, Luís Manso 115º, Duarte Monteiro 144º, Miguel João 206º, Jorge Paula 207º, Pedro Figueiredo 256º e Pedro Carvalho 258º finalizando a comitiva portuguesa.

GREECE CONTINUES ON FORM, WHILST ITALY KNOCKS FRANCE OFF TOP SPOT IN LADIES EUROPEANS
On day 4 of the 2011 420 Open and Ladies European Championships, the challenge for some was to remain focused after yesterday's lay day spent relaxing. With the 6-race qualification series completed and the Open and Ladies fleets seeded into gold and silver after Monday's racing, it was back into battler.
Anticipating light winds over the coming days, 3 races for all fleets were scheduled which delivered a fantastic day of racing. The breeze wasn't as strong as expected, not getting above 10-11 knots,with the pressure changing all around the course. Combined with the strong current, the sailors had a challenging day, with particularly interesting mark roundings offering significant wins and losses.
The Kavas brothers continue to put Greece at the front in the 78 boat strong Open fleet, but upset in the Ladies fleet as France's Jennifer Poret/Louise Chevet let their form slip which helped hand the lead to Italy's Celli/Morini.
Open The Kavas brothers from Greece are crunching the competition underfoot, and aside from a black flag penalty in race 5 have not put the bow of their boat off a virtually perfect track around the course. They must be starting to get quietly confident now of the European Championships outcome as more wins in races 7 and 9 today increases their points margin over the fleet to 16 points. Meanwhile their rivals would be forgiven for thinking there must be some sort of secret to their performance, but when you ask around the boat park the consensus is “they are just sailing perfect races.”
Jury Chair Helmut Czasny (AUT) who is close up to the action, concluded, “They are neat, they concentrate, they do only what they need to do. They are never in the spotlight, they start in a safe place, they always try to go on the favoured side first. Then they know they are fast on every tack and gybe they do.”
An unassuming pair, helm and younger brother Alexander did admit with a smile that they were expecting to be at the front of the fleet. Coach Nick Drougas commented, “What is special is their sailing talent which comes from hard work. When you talk to these guys, they just put it on their hard disk immediately. Also they are not here to win only, they enjoy sailing.” With three races left to conclude the Championships, chasing hard but with little hope of catching their rivals are Jacopo Cunial/Michele Inchiostri who put in a 6,2,7 to shift into second overall on points countback over the French.
It is unlikely the French are that disappointed to drop to third overall as they still surprised to be at the front of the pack. A lack of experience at international events is not proving problematic for Clovic Leroux/Aymeric Paruit, who said, “When we arrived at the Championship our first objective was the gold fleet,” so when they first wore the coloured bib after day 1 of racing, Leroux said “I thought wow, what am I doing here? It was crazy.” They have been sailing together for ten months, with the 2011 Open Europeans their first international championships, and Leroux puts their success primarily down to the great support and spirit in the French team camp here in Tavira.
From front to back; and currently at the very back of the fleet are Russia's Daniil Banayan/Andrei Zviagintcev who are competing at their first ever international event. Banayan has been sailing the 420 for 14 months and before that the Optimist, but as a team they only paired up in February 2011, the same time Zviagintcev took up sailing. Based in St Petersburg, the next stop on their calendar is the Russian 420 National Championships. Banayan explained their mission in Tavira is just to train and experience an international event. Ladies The competition is reaching a head in the 62 boat ladies fleet as the fight for podium places starts to get exciting, particularly amongst the front four boats who have a significant points margin over the rest of the fleet. It is impossible to predict where this event is going and we are set for a roller coaster to the end.
Frustration for Jennifer Poret/Louise Chevet (FRA) whose black flag penalty combined with a stunning two wins in the bag from Cristina Celli/Silvia Morini (ITA) gives the Italians the yellow jersey going into day 5 of racing on Thursday.
A smiling Morini said, “It was our good day today! We went especially to the right side of the course and there was light wind and we were fast,” before continuing, “We hoped we would be good, but we didn't know we would be this good.” Their five years as a team is clearly paying dividends, and started when they were sailing Optimists together aged 6, as Celli explained, “We have a beautiful sailing relationship. We discuss sailing on the water, but after the race we don't discuss it!”
Poret/Chevet's first mistake of the series may turn out to be their last and the one which blocks their way back to the top. Germany's Paulina Rothlauf/Madlen Geisler drop down to third overall after a 11,2,12 scoreline today.
The four boat frontrunners each have impressive 420 pedigrees, and the first three of these will now want to cover their backs as Switzerland's Linda Fahrni/Maja Siegenthaler (SUI) move closer to the fray as they jump up into fourth overall.
After four years 420 sailing, Linda Fahrni/Maja Siegenthaler (SUI) are competing at their last ever event in the 420, as they make their move to the 470. Recent top results include 11th at the 2011 420 Worlds, 14th at the 2010 420 Worlds and gold at the 2010 ISAF Youth Words. After a tentative start here in Tavira they have made an impressive recovery, and except for race 3 have top ten results throughout. They are only 5 points off third place and 17 off first so everything and anything can happen. Siegenthaler commented, “Today there was not so much wind, but for us it was very good. We sailed very confidently and every start was good. The current was very strong, pushing boats behind the line and we tried to say more in front than the others.” And on their opening race 7 result, she explained, “There was a shift on the start and we tacked immediately across the fleet and it was a very nice feeling.” Referring to their normal sailing environment, Sigenthaler continued, ”It is more difficult to sail on the sea than on a lake, because on the lake there are more shifts. It is a different wind here.”
Anticipating the challenge ahead, particularly the pace set by Poret/Chevet, Siegenthaler acknowledged that she could not remember the French previously sailing as well as they are in Tavira, and anticipated it was unlikely that they would be able to overtake them. However, there is no plan to give up on the top spot yet as she said, “Our plan is to not make mistakes and wait for the others to make mistakes.”
With more light wind forecast, the Race Committee has scheduled the warning signal for 1000 hours tomorrow, Thursday 28 July, with two races scheduled for all fleets.

The four boat frontrunners each have impressive 420 pedigrees, and the first three of these will now want to cover their backs as Switzerland's Linda Fahrni/Maja Siegenthaler (SUI) move closer to the fray as they jump up into fourth overall.
After four years 420 sailing, Linda Fahrni/Maja Siegenthaler (SUI) are competing at their last ever event in the 420, as they make their move to the 470. Recent top results include 11th at the 2011 420 Worlds, 14th at the 2010 420 Worlds and gold at the 2010 ISAF Youth Words. After a tentative start here in Tavira they have made an impressive recovery, and except for race 3 have top ten results throughout. They are only 5 points off third place and 17 off first so everything and anything can happen. Siegenthaler commented, “Today there was not so much wind, but for us it was very good. We sailed very confidently and every start was good. The current was very strong, pushing boats behind the line and we tried to say more in front than the others.” And on their opening race 7 result, she explained, “There was a shift on the start and we tacked immediately across the fleet and it was a very nice feeling.” Referring to their normal sailing environment, Sigenthaler continued, ”It is more difficult to sail on the sea than on a lake, because on the lake there are more shifts. It is a different wind here.”
Anticipating the challenge ahead, particularly the pace set by Poret/Chevet, Siegenthaler acknowledged that she could not remember the French previously sailing as well as they are in Tavira, and anticipated it was unlikely that they would be able to overtake them. However, there is no plan to give up on the top spot yet as she said, “Our plan is to not make mistakes and wait for the others to make mistakes.”
With more light wind forecast, the Race Committee has scheduled the warning signal for 1000 hours tomorrow, Thursday 28 July, with two races scheduled for all fleets.

The medals in the eight fleets at the 41st ISAF Youth Sailing World Championship in Zadar, Croatia have been decided following a dramatic final day.
For the third consecutive year France walk away with the ISAF Nations Trophy with Spain coming in second and Poland taking third place.
Just one point separated Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games silver medallist Veronica Fanciulli (ITA) and YOG gold medallist Siripon Kaewduang-Ngam (THA) at the top of the RS:X Girls leader board ahead of the final race. And it was Fanciulli that came ahead of the Kaewduang-Ngam in fifth place compared to the Thai RS:X sailors sixth place to win the gold medal in Zadar. Fanciulli said, "The race was good. I finished fifth and the Thai girl finished sixth and I won the whole competition.
"At the Youth Olympic Games there was very light wind and the Thai girl was very good in the light wind and today was a windy day and I am really happy." Watch the full interview with Fanciulli here.
Agnieszka Bilska (POL) won the final race today but it wasn't enough to overhaul Naomi Cohen (ISR) who finished second to clinch the bronze medal.
In the RS:X Boys Korea's Cho Wonwoo, who won silver at the 2010 ISAF Youth Worlds, went one better in 2011 winning the gold medal. Wonwoo, who is on the ISAF Athlete Participation Programme has benefitted from the coaching of Hugh Styles throughout the week and was delighted with his performance. He said, "I am very happy and happy to win. I was very nervous and today I am the winner." Full interview with Wonwoo here.
Mateo Sanz (ESP) came through in second overall followed by France's Louis Giard who retired after the finish today but had already done enough to clinch the bronze medal.
Maxime Mazard (FRA) came out on top in the Laser Radial Boys following a battle against Giovanni Coccoluto (ITA). The Frenchman finished 13th compared to the Italians 20th place which handed Mazard the gold medal. Mazard said, "It was my first ISAF Youth Worlds and it was fantastic. Everyone was really close and the Italian was eight places behind me and I just did my race as normal.

?an-Luka Zelko (SLO) recorded two race wins throughout the week and after his 11th place finish today he receives the silver medal for Slovenia. Coccoluto's 20th place finish saw him slip down to pick up the bronze medal.
Norway's Tiril Bue brought a six point cushion into the final day and after finishing sixth today she won the gold medal. Bue said, "It was great, especially the three last days. They were the best. I love Zadar. It is sunny and warm and great wind conditions. It is just crazy. I never thought I would win the whole championship." Tiril Bue spoke to ISAF after the racing, watch an interview here.
The competition for silver and bronze was tense leading up to the final day with two points separating second and fourth place. Manami Doi (JPN) went into the final race second, Paulina Czubachowska (POL) started in third and Erika Reineke (USA) was fourth.
In the end Reineke came through in second after finishing fifth today but a late charge by France's Sandy Fauthoux, which saw the French girl finish second, meant she picked up the bronze medal by two points after Doi came down in 11th and Czubachowska ended the last race in 15th position.
Martin Lowy and Kim Andrade (BRA) clinched the gold medal in the SL16 after they came seventh in the final race of the championship. The boys from Brazil have had an excellent regatta and won eight races out of the 12 sailed in Zadar. Lowy said, "It was very good. Everything is perfect. I love it." Denmark's Nicolaj Bjornholt Christiansen and Daniel Bjornholt Christiansen finished with a bullet today to pick up the silver medal and Great Britain's Rupert White and Nikola Boniface came through in second to secure the bronze medal.
Consistent results at the front of the fleet is vital and Spain's Carlos Robles and Florian Trittel exemplified this point after finishing in the top six in 11 races in the 29er to seal the gold medal. After the race Robles said, "I am really happy. We were celebrating on the course for ages with the Spanish Laser Radial sailor."
And Trittel added, "I am very happy. It is a beautiful day today and a perfect championship for us." ISAF spoke to the pair immediately after the racing.
Antoine Screve and Max Agnese (USA) pipped the Netherlands Max Deckers and Annette Duetz to the silver medal following their second place finish today compared to the Dutch duos fourth place.
Like their compatriots Jordi Xammar and Alex Claville (ESP) also showed a level of control and consistency that saw them awarded the gold medal. Xammar receives his second ISAF Youth Worlds gold medal following his success with Joan Herp at the 2010 regatta in Istanbul, Turkey. Xammar said, "It is incredible. Nothing to say apart from thanks to everybody helping me to arrive here. I just want to say thanks to the people that help me everyday with my training. Today is for saying thanks for all the help." A delighted Xammar spoke to ISAF following the crews celebrations.
Daichi Mototsu and Yuki Hino won the silver medal after their bullet today and Australia's Angus Galloway and Alexander Gough received the bronze medal.
Lara Vadlau and Tanja Frank (AUT) won gold in the 420 Girls following a nervy race against Morgan Kiss and Christina Lewis (USA). The Austrians finished the final race in eighth compared to the Americans third place meaning they were tied on 34 points apiece. Both teams had two race wins but the Austrians came out on top having had three second place finishes. Vadlau said, "We are very proud and it was a hard job to win and finally we did. We had lots of luck but everyone needs luck to win."
Frank added, "We were happy but we didn't know when we came off the water so we went to the list and asking everyone if we had win. And we were happy when we found out we had won." View the full interview here.
Fiona Kidd (CAN), the Chairman of the ISAF Youth World Championship Sub-committee rounded off the 41st ISAF Youth Worlds, "The organisation has been world class. The organising committee has done an exceptional job both on and off the water. Logistically it is a very difficult event but here we've had superb sailing, the race management has been excellent and on shore they've done a super job in terms of making every body enjoy the event.
"It's great to see all the sailors having a good time. We've had two fantastic days of racing today and yesterday and I think we got all the races in. At the end of the day the best sailors won and they've all had a fantastic time."

Miguel Andrade está a competir neste campeonato em La Rochelle, sendo o único Português da frota, estando a preparar já de seguida para o campeonato "World and European Laser Radial Youth Championship" que se realiza a 24 de Julho, no dia após terminar o campeonato em que participa no momento.
Está em 95º sendo ontem o ultimo dia de qualificações, amanhã as frotas arrancam para a derradeira etapa.

Very nice last day of qualifying series for the World Laser Radial Men’s and Standard Junior Championships. We have had everything: rain, sun, waves, wind, good starts, general reminders, collisions, complaints and even quarrels between the sailors on the start line!
From tomorrow, laserists will race for the finals series. On each round, fleets will be divided in three colors: best sailors of the championships will sail in « Gold », followers in « Silver » and the last ones in « Bronze ».
The day ended with the famous « Mid-Week Party »: the barbecue has been offered to all sailors and organization members, served by the S.R.R. volunteers. Some two hundred people celebrated these Laser World Championships and the Société des Régates Rochelaises made its sound system resound in the whole Minimes Port.

Tavira é palco a partir de hoje do Campeonato da Europa de 420, que decorre até ao próximo dia 29 de Julho. No total, participam na prova algarvia 138 tripulações (76 masculinas e 62 femininas), de 16 países. A organização é do Clube Náutico de Tavira, no âmbito do Projecto Tavira Sailing.
Portugal está representado por vinte duplas, doze masculinas e oito femininas, que têm aspirações ao título. No sector masculino marcam presença, no último acto do projecto Tavira Sailing 2011, Ruben Semedo/Francisco Teixeira (actuais vice-campeões nacionais), Tomás Camelo/Vasco Silva, João Villas-Boas/João Duarte, Luís Niza/Paulo Baptista, Gonçalo Pires/Nuno Bajanca, António Pereira/Afonso Prieto, Gonçalo Pinho/Miguel Hipólito (campeões de Portugal de juniores), Martim Soares Franco/Ricardo Schedel, Miguel Guimarães/David Abecassis, João Pestana/Manuel Bruschy, Gonçalo Fonseca/Pedro Neto e João Cunha/Gustavo Seguro.

Campeonato Nacional Laser SB3 2011
Ao longo de quatro dias de regatas e com a presença de 18 tripulações, a disputa foi muito intensa entre os barcos presentes na 7ª edição do Campeonato Nacional da Classe Laser SB3.
Nos quatro dias de prova os concorrentes realizaram oito regatas com ventos do quadrante Norte, entre os 8 e os 18 nós de intensidade, e onde foram utilizados os dois campos de regatas de Cascais.
Como habitualmente a disputa foi grande, com diversas tripulações a vencerem regatas e com trocas constantes na liderança das regatas.
Ao final do primeiro dia de regatas, com três regatas disputadas no campo de regatas da Baía, com ventos de norte entre os 14 e os 18 nós, a tripulação do Xcelent seguia na frente, logo seguido do Dom Pedro Hotels e da tripulação de Fernando Bello e do Bettersoft /Bicasco de Luís Santos separados por apenas 3 pontos. Desde logo se percebeu que a disputa pelo título Nacional iria ser muito renhida.
No segundo dia, a Comissão de regatas levou os participantes para o campo de regatas da Guia. A primeira regata realizou-se com ventos de Noroeste com cerca de 8 nós, que como habitualmente foi subindo de intensidade ao longo do dia chegando a atingir os 18 nós de intensidade, permitindo às tripulações de fazerem uns “plananços” nas popas da última regata. Ao final do dia o Dom Pedro Hotels seguia na frente da classificação geral, seguido de muito perto pelo Xcelent e pelo Capital Moura, que defendia o titulo nacional.
No terceiro dia de regatas a Comissão de Regatas voltou a optar pelo campo de regatas da Guia. Com mais três regatas disputadíssimas, os concorrentes desfrutaram de um dia de vela fantástico, com ventos de noroeste a rondar os 12 nós de intensidade durante todo o dia. O Xcelent de John Pollard voltava para a liderança do evento, mas a concorrência estava alta e havia mais 4 tripulações no seu encalço separados por apenas 3 pontos.
Para o último dia de provas, estava prevista a realização de duas regatas, que seriam decisivas para encontrar o vencedor da edição deste ano. A frota foi para o mar pelas 12:00 horas, mas ao contrário do que é habitual em Cascais, o vento acabou por não comparecer durante todo o dia. O resultado final ficaria decidido com apenas 8 regatas realizadas, mas com um justíssimo vencedor do campeonato.
Na classificação geral, o vencedor foi o Xcelent, de John Pollard, Rob Smith e Mickey Shorts, seguidos pelo Dom Pedro Hotels, de José Paulo Ramada, Pedro Rebelo de Andrade e Luis Guedes Queiroz na segunda posição e peloBettersof/Bicasco, de Luís Santos, Pedro Vilela e José Costa.
O Dom Pedro Hotels, de José Paulo Ramada, Pedro Rebelo de Andrade e Luís Guedes Queiroz sagrou-se assim o Campeão Nacional de Laser SB3 2011, juntando o seu nome a outros como Filipe Silva (2010), Luís Santos (2007) e Fernando Bello(2005, 2006, 2008 e 2009).

Campeonato da Europa Feminino de Laser Radial
A velejadora nacional realizou nove regatas (29ª, 9ª, 13ª, 23ª, 17ª, 10ª, DNF, 19ª, 10ª) e terminou em igualdade pontual com a 20ª classificada, a italiana Laura Cosentino. Sara Carmo terminou em 21º lugar, 14º posto por países.
A chinesa Lijia Xu foi a vencedora da prova, mas o título europeu foi conquistado pela belga Evi Van Acker. A croata Tina Mihelic e a espanhola Alicia Cebrian, foram 2ª e 3ª respectivamente. No total marcaram presença 105 velejadoras (94 europeias) de 30 países.
