BUILDING UP FOR CASCAIS

On-site preparations have started in Portugal for the America’s Cup World Series - Cascais as the ACRM shore team begins building out the receiving base under the striking architecture and engineering of the 25 de Abril Bridge.

With a design based on San Francisco’s Bay Bridge and sharing the coloring of the famous Golden Gate Bridge, Lisbon's 25 de Abril Bridge serves as a perfect welcome point to the America's Cup family.

25 containers of support gear and infrastructure are scheduled to arrive over the coming days, allowing shore crews to begin making tangible progress in the build-up of the first event of the 34th America's Cup.

The first five containers arrived at the base on Friday directly from Auckland. Inside was the ACRM AC45, one chase boat and the tents for the ACRM and ACTV bases.

The 12 shore crew on station were quick to make up for time lost in transit, and had the containers unpacked the same afternoon. Building of the ACRM base will begin on Monday when 25 more containers are scheduled to be delivered from Valencia.

Over the next few weeks, the event organizers will construct training and event facilities that will serve as the backbone of the entire operation. From the 100-person television production team to the shore team supporting the athletes and their boats to the event team creating a first-class fan experience, months of preparation now turn into the delivery of an event worthy of the America’s Cup.

With eight more shore crew arriving to Portugal this weekend, the Cascais team is steadily building in numbers and strength in order to complete preparations for what is sure to be a spectacular opening to the 34th America's Cup.
